A 15-year-old boy has died after being shot in the chest on a Derby street.
Police said the boy was walking along Caxton Road in the Normanton area of the city with friends at about 2120 GMT on Tuesday when he was shot.
He was taken to the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary for treatment but later died from his injuries.
Police said armed officers and police dogs searched for the offenders with the help of helicopter support but were unable to find them.
‘Terrible tragedy’
Assistant Chief Constable Peter Goodman urged anyone who witnessed the shooting to come forward.
“This is a terrible tragedy in which a young teenager has lost his life.
“The public can rest assured that we are determined to bring the offenders to justice.
“Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult and distressing time.”
